Ten Feet Off-a Beale

Good morning, Slackers...

Most of you have got to be tired of Phish, so let's talk about some more great music, namely "Walking in Memphis." My old boss' blog discussed guilty pleasures last month, which I thought about this morning when Marc Cohn's wonderful one hit randomly came on the iPod this morning. I mean, is there a guy out there who doesn't consider this to be a guilty pleasure? Seriously, does anyone not like this song in a I'm-alone-no-one-can-see-me-so-I'll-belt-this-out kind of way? When he sings "Tell me are you a Christian child," does anyone not belt out "MA'AM I AM TONIGHT!"? I thought so. That's all I have at this time, your honor.

More to follow this afternoon...maybe it'll be about the Olympics and last night's gymnastics shocker, maybe it'll be about the Fat Darrell sandwich, maybe it'll be about the Defenestration of Prague. Could be lunchmeat, could be peaches. Who knows? The point is this: even though it's free, don't mean it's no good. Am I right, princess?

Yahtzee.

What about Des'ree's "You Gotta Be"? I definitely thought that would be on your guilty pleasures list, Ace.

Damn, an old roommate of mine comes by to sell me out...actually, in truth, the entire Des'ree "I Ain't Movin'" album is a guilty pleasure of mine. "Crazy Maze" is probably my favorite. That chick had pipes. Wesley Pipes.

Don Henley's "The Heart of the Matter" is a big guilty pleasure for me. I hear that song and something inside of me comes alive, my will gets weak, and my thoughts seem to scatter, but I think it's about, forgiveness...forgiveness...

Hansen kinda sucks, but I can see them as a guilty pleasure...after all, my namesake Bobby Weir played with them. That's right, Hansen guested with Bob F-in Weir. Craisins.

Hanson totally sucks, but we aren't debating the bands worth...just a song that makes you embarassed to enjoy. Kind of like Bawitdaba by Kid Rock.

I've been listening to Tom Petty's greatest hits 2-3 times a week for the past month. That's got to be worth something.

We've lost all control...no side talks please.

Tom Petty is not a guilty pleasure. It is so decreed. He's a legit musician...

I don't do Tom Petty - looks too much like Martina Navratolova (sp?). Are they twins?

I had read this post and all responses yesterday before leaving work, when on the way home, suddenly Bohemian Rhapsody comes on the radio.

Now I'm not sure that Bohemian Rhapsody can be considered a guilty pleasure becuase it is just a classic great tune (kind of like in the Tom Petty way mentioned above), but how about the interaction with the song while playing?

Everyone think of the last time they heard Bohemian Rhapsody. Not only did you feel obliged to belt out every single word of the song at the top of your lungs, but perhaps the strangest part, you MUST bob your head up and down violently in a very "Party-On Wayne, Party-On Garth" kinda way during that one part.

I contend that while the song itself may not be a guilty pleasure, the way you listen to it certainly can be...

Party-On everyone!
