Recommendation: Weeds

How on Earth would it be possible to dislike a show starring my homegirl Mary-Louise Parker as a suburban, pot-dealing widow? This show gives new meaning to the word MILF.

Having never heard of over-exposure, the good people at Showtime are re-running this week's premiere episode on Wednesday and Friday at 10 pm and 10:30 pm...so if you've got that newfangled TiVo machine, set yourself up for a recording of Weeds.

I won't spend any time here reviewing the show or its characters, but it's got more potential for greatness than just about any new show I've seen recently. I will say, I think this show does little to just throw stereotypes up there -- it's innovative. And hopefully it'll advance the story and break down some boundaries, drawing attention to the fact that real people smoke, real people deal, and it's just another drug, like alcohol or nicotine. American Beauty did wonders for the suburban smoker, which in turn made it more acceptable...maybe this will do the same.

Also, the show's pretty fucking entertaining. Kevin Nealon (who's apparently not dead) stars as a tokin' city councilman, the kid from War of the Worlds as his drug-dealing, closeted son, Elizabeth Perkins as a Desperate Housewives-type horror of a mother and an ensemble cast that works pretty well (so far). Who knows, maybe I'll watch another episode and hate it, but the premiere did the trick. You should start watching.

Unrelated, here's a decent link: Fun with signs.

ace, knowing your love for MLP, how do you rank her films in level of attractiveness?

To be honest, my love for MLP is all West Wing-related...she starred as feminist activist (and later the first lady's chief of staff) Amy Gardner and knocked my proverbial socks right off. Outside of that, I really only liked her in The Client.

But I apparently have this weird thing for tall, sassy brunettes named Parker -- Parker Posey and Mary-Louise Parker are my two favorite female celebs in the world. They rock.
