Interesting Thought

I just passed an Entertainment Weekly issue that features a few cast members of The Sopranos on the cover. And then it hit me...

Tony's in an induced coma, and with what the previews are indicating for the rest of the season, it would surely be a stretch for the producers to incorporate Dr. Melfi's awful character into the flow any time soon. It'll be an absolute blessing if they can write her out of the scripts altogether, but I'm not sure they'd want to pay Bracco for her time and not use her (aka the Allan Houston).

So, in spite of not recognizing that voice, is it possible that Melfi's the other woman in his life in purgatory, or wherever this alternate comatose universe is taking place? Just a thought.

Yeah, but she would have played more D than Alan, and she would have hustled on D. But hey, those are just my thoughts.

I don't watch the show, but it certainly sounds like it has "jumped the shark" with the whole alternate universe thing.

Nice, Boski...I'd take Melfi against Houston one on one any day, and I despise her.

Anon, I actually disagree...I think this brought it back into prominence as the best delevoped show on television again. It was slipping away, but I think this angle has me intrigued.

I just hope they don't lay up Tony for too long and switch the focus of the show onto weaker plots (ala the first few episodes of Season 2 of Deadwood with Al in bed with kidney stones).

Great Post Ace,
I have to say that the two people I thought the voice sounded like were #1 Ginny Sack and #2 Artie Bucco's wife. It sounded more like Ginny though and that's the premise I'm going on moving forward.

Someone told me today he thought it was Gloria Trillo, aka Anabella Sciora, but I'm not so sure. I really liked her, though, and it would be cool to have her back on the show.

Ace, do you just generally not like Dr. Melfi?

Ginny Sack, very interesting...although that would kinda rip a hole in the "Tony as a good guy" parallel.

I'd LOVE to see Gloria Trillo back on the show...first, it would be good to get her beauty and sass back in the mix. But more importantly, it might return a little Van the Man G-L-O-R-IIIIIIIII, G-L-O-R-I-A, Glooooria" to the fold.

I despise Melfi's character because I don't think she adds any value to the show. The shrink angle was cool for two seasons or so, but now it's just an unbearable subplot that only serves to confuse viewers. Nothing comes from these sessions with her, so I ask, why have 'em? Because the Sopranos, like any good baseball or hoops team, is locked into her contract and can't get out.

I agree Ace...this year has totally sucked me back in. Finally its back to where I can't predict what's going to happen 5 minutes before it does.

I posted the Ginny Sack comment and have to disagree with you ace. If Tony's in an alternate universe then why couldn't Ginny Sack fit right in with Good Guy Tony.

In many ways it makes perfect sense. Instead of marrying Carm, blond, thin (thinner at least) etc. and he goes on to run the family. He marries Ginny, becomes a schlub and she rags on him all the time.

This season is looking good, but I'm all for them getting out the alternate universe and back into the regular one ASAP.

Can I just add that Medow Soprano has lost weight in all the right places? How about that strip tease? Mama mia!!

I tend to agree with you about Dr. Melfi, but I disagree with you that they're stuck with her conract. They got rid of Adriana and Big Pussy, and those actors presumably had contracts. (I know Adriana got a show on NBC, but the actor who plays Big Pussy must have been pissed when he found out he was getting rubbed off.)

I like our Sopranos discussions around here, but how come we never talk about The Shield? Great season finale last night.

"Adriana and Big Pussy", isnt that the same person?

I've never seen The Shield, and I'm not looking for any more shows. I need less TV, not more. But Red Cowboy used to be a huge fan, so I have nothing against Chiklis & Company.

Meadow's lookin' damn good...best I've seen her look in quite a long time, since the high school cafeteria maybe. Jericho High School Football rules!

Ya'll Allan Houston haters need to shut the hell up, he did more for the Knicks than Boathead Marbury is doing.
